Brooklyn man commits machete attack on officers

BROOKLYN, NY – A Brooklyn man armed with a machete was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking three officers from the New York Police Department on Monday, law enforcement sources have confirmed.

The drama unfolded in the afternoon hours, around 3:30 p.m., when police were called to an East Flatbush apartment on New York Avenue. Inside, they found a 40-year-old man, later identified as Jean Blain, who was reportedly suffering from emotional distress. As officers attempted to apprehend Blain, a violent confrontation ensued.

Blain is accused of slashing one officer across the side of the head with the machete during the struggle. Two other officers sustained injuries – one to the wrist and the other to the shoulder. All three officers were taken to Kings County Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Blain faces charges of assault, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon.

In a separate incident occurring about an hour later, another NYPD officer was assaulted at the 42nd Street-Bryant Park station. The officer was attempting to remove a disorderly individual who was causing trouble with a group of teenagers when the man punched the officer in the face. He was subsequently arrested, with charges yet to be filed.
