Boyfriend arrested for murder of teen who was a new mom

DALLAS, TX – A 17-year-old Texas boy, Trevon Wright, has been apprehended in connection with the murder of his teenage ex-girlfriend, who was a new mother. Wright was arrested on Monday by the U.S. Marshals Task Force and is currently held at the Dallas County Jail, as per local law enforcement.

Wright faces charges for the murder of 17-year-old Ikea Imari Hood, who was fatally shot at a residence in Oak Cliff’s southeast section on a Sunday morning. Hood had just become a mother three weeks before her untimely death. Wright and Hood had a tumultuous relationship spanning two years, according to the arrest affidavit.

Hood, a junior at Lancaster High School and a member of the Tigerette Drill Team, had recently discovered that Wright was not the father of her newborn daughter. She planned to break the news to him on January 7, her mother told investigators.

Hood’s mother discovered her daughter with a gunshot wound in her locked bedroom, the window open and the screen pushed out. Wright had previously believed he was the father of the baby, the arrest documents revealed.

Hood, who had dreams of becoming a collegiate-level dancer, leaves behind seven siblings. She was thrilled to be a mother, local news outlet NBC 5 reported. “She was goofy, funny, always had us laughing,” Jalaya Williams, Hood’s sister, told the local TV station. “Kea was a celebrity! She was everything.”

The details of how or where law enforcement tracked down Wright remain undisclosed, as well as whether a weapon was recovered from him. He is currently in custody on a $500,000 bond.
