Woman allegedly poisons husband’s soup amid catfishing scheme

AYER, MA – A Massachusetts woman has been charged with attempted murder after she allegedly tried to kill her husband by poisoning his soup. The incident came to light when the suspect’s daughter found messages instructing her mother to prepare the tainted soup. This was part of a peculiar catfishing scheme involving a man pretending to be actor Thorsten Kaye.

Roxanne Doucette, 64, was arrested after authorities were alerted by her daughter, Nicole Heath, who discovered the messages while investigating her mother’s online relationship. Doucette had been sending money to the impersonator, believing she was communicating with the well-known soap opera star.

Upon reading the messages, Heath found alarming content suggesting that Doucette was being encouraged to kill her husband so they could start a life together. She decided to reach out to the police for their help with the seeming scam.

The poisoned soup allegedly resulted in a hospital stay for Doucette’s 73-year-old husband, Paul Doucette. When he regained consciousness, he recalled that his wife’s soup tasted unusually bitter.

After being questioned by local journalists, Doucette denied the poisoning accusations, declaring she was merely the victim of a scam. However, when police attempted to confiscate her phone and iPad as part of their investigation, Doucette reportedly resisted, leading to additional charges of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and intimidation of a witness.

Doucette is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. In the meantime, authorities have tested Paul Doucette for opioids, cocaine, and alcohol, but no traces of these substances were found.
