Body of missing woman found stuffed in a plastic tote in the woods

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A week after being reported missing, the body of an Indianapolis woman was found inside a storage tote in a wooded area, prompting a homicide investigation by local authorities.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirmed that Tara Capps, 36, was found on Sunday on the city’s south side. The discovery came after Capps’ family received a tip pointing to a wooded area behind a food distribution center on South Keystone Avenue.

Acting on the tip, Capps’ family initiated a search and tragically found her deceased inside a storage container. The discovery has left them devastated and desperate for answers.

Virginia Summers, Capps’ mother, expressed her heartbreak, stating, “This is a nightmare no one should endure.” She confirmed that her daughter was identified through fingerprints. “She was a wonderful person who didn’t deserve this,” Summers added.

Capps was reported missing by her family on June 30. The IMPD is treating the case as a homicide but has not released information regarding suspects, motives, or the cause of death. Investigators are pursuing multiple leads and anticipate more details following the autopsy report next week.

Summers is resolute in her quest for justice. “I will not stop until those responsible are found. No one should suffer like this,” she vowed.
