FORT WAYNE, IN – The Allen County Coroner has identified the remains of two individuals discovered in the St. Marys River last Friday as Christina Michelle Dixon, 40, and Matthew Joseph Johnson, 41. Both victims were from Connersville, located east of Indianapolis, and their deaths have been officially ruled as homicides.
Volunteers participating in a river cleanup near Guldlin Park on the outskirts of downtown Fort Wayne made the grim discovery. According to the coroner’s report, Dixon’s cause of death was strangulation and suffocation. The report also stated that Johnson suffered from a combination of gunshot and stab wounds that led to his death.
Both Dixon and Johnson had been reported missing by the Richmond Police Department as of September 19. Their disappearance was indicated in a missing persons bulletin from Indiana State Police.
Details about how their remains ended up in the river remain unclear. No information about a potential suspect or further details of the investigation have been publically disclosed at this time.
