Armed suspect shot dead by police outside of shopping plaza

A fatal shooting occurred outside the bustling Town Brookhaven shopping and entertainment plaza in Brookhaven, Georgia. The incident prompted the closure of the plaza’s entrance on Monday evening. According to the Brookhaven Police, officers responded to a 911 call reporting an armed man at one of the businesses around 5:30 p.m. While details have remained undisclosed, it has been confirmed that a confrontation took place that resulted in gunshots.

Responding officers successfully located a man matching the suspect’s description. A confrontation between the officers and the suspect escalated, leading to gunfire. The injured suspect was immediately rushed to a local hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at Grady Hospital. Chief Gurley emphasized the ongoing investigation and the utilization of video evidence from multiple sources.

Residents in the area expressed their concern over the unusual activity and the shooting incident. Police have assured the public that there is no immediate threat to their safety. Fortunately, no officers were harmed during the encounter.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called upon to conduct an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting. This marks the 58th case this year in which the state agency has been requested to probe such incidents.
