WEST VALLEY CITY, UT – In a harrowing incident that unfolded over the weekend, a seven-year-old boy found himself at the center of a life-threatening situation allegedly at the hands of his own mother. Neighbors in the typically quiet community sprang into action, showcasing the strength of community bonds in times of crisis.
Residents near 3100 South and 6400 West were alerted to the emergency when Debbie Allen, a local resident, discovered blood at her front door. The boy, who had fled his home in distress, told neighbors that he had been attacked by his mother. According to Allen, the boy urgently requested, “Call 911, I just tried killing my son,” referring to his mother’s shocking confession.
Allen, who chose not to appear on camera, recounted the chilling details of the boy’s ordeal. He claimed his mother, identified as 35-year-old Patrice Gustafson, had bludgeoned him with a statue and attempted to drown him. The severity of the situation was underscored when Gustafson, also known as Patrice Garcia, reportedly entered Allen’s home unclothed, adding to the chaos of the scene.
Emergency responders arrived promptly, and Gustafson was apprehended. Meanwhile, the young boy was treated for cuts on his head, which required staples. Despite the trauma, he has since been released from the hospital, much to the relief of Allen and other neighbors who were deeply shaken by the event.
The community has rallied around the boy, expressing gratitude for his survival and emphasizing their commitment to protecting all children in their neighborhood. “It’s scary,” Allen remarked, “but we would protect any child around here.”
Gustafson is currently in custody, facing multiple charges, including aggravated child abuse, burglary, and disarming a police officer. This incident is not her first run-in with the law; earlier this year, she pleaded guilty to charges of drug possession and obstruction of justice in a separate case.
The neighborhood remains on edge as they process the unsettling events, but the swift action of its residents has been a testament to their resilience and compassion. As the investigation continues, the community hopes for healing and justice for the young boy.
