NASHVILLE, TN – A North Nashville community is reeling after a 74-year-old woman was found murdered in her home, prompting a police investigation to find her killer. Harriet Edwards was discovered by a concerned friend after she hadn’t been heard from for several days, leaving neighbors in shock and fear.
Long-time resident Lawson, who has lived in the Chateau Valley subdivision for decades, expressed his disbelief at the tragic event. “It’s very upsetting for the entire community,” he said, noting the fear and apprehension that now linger in the neighborhood.
Metro Police reported that Edwards was found deceased on her bed, her death resulting from strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head. The friend who found her had grown worried after not hearing from Edwards, who lived alone.
Neighbors described Edwards as a sweet woman who mostly kept to herself. Though Lawson did not know her personally, he occasionally noticed visitors at her home. The lack of any immediate suspects has left the community yearning for answers.
Detectives, after reviewing medical records, believe the murder occurred between 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on the day she was last seen, a Friday. Despite the violent nature of the crime, Metro Police have reassured residents that there is no indication of further danger to the public.
As the investigation continues, residents are hoping for closure. “We just want to understand what happened,” Lawson added, echoing the sentiments of many.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have been in the Chateau Valley area on that Friday to come forward with any information that may aid in solving the case.
