A young couple from Pinckneyville, Illinois, has been charged with murdering their three-month-old son, Ocean Wayne Hutchings. The infant suffered multiple severe injuries, including a skull fracture and multiple rib fractures, and subsequently passed away at a children’s hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Illinois State Police (ISP) arrested Logan Hutchings, 21, and Sophia Kelly, 21, after being alerted of the infant’s injuries on June 12, 2022. Medical staff at the hospital declared the baby boy dead on June 14 due to the severity of his injuries. Prior to his hospital admission, Ocean had been under the care of Hutchings and Kelly in Pinckneyville, according to a police statement.
On Tuesday, the States Attorneys Appellate Prosecutors office filed three counts each of first-degree murder charges against both parents. ISP agents took the pair into custody and transported them to the Washington County Jail, where they are being held on a $1 million bond.
An obituary provided by Pyatt Funeral Home portrayed Ocean as a boy who enjoyed the outdoors, and loved his older brother Ozark as well as his parents.
