HOUSTON, TX – A Houston-area medical spa owner faces serious allegations of practicing medicine without a license, leaving a trail of disillusioned patients in her wake. Among them is Diana Lee, who sought cosmetic enhancements but ended up with a disfigured face and shattered confidence after a botched Botox procedure.
Lee visited a clinic in Austin last December, believing she was in the capable hands of a qualified doctor. However, Houston police have since revealed that the clinic’s owner, Hanan Ali, is not a licensed physician. The unsettling experience left Lee with significant facial swelling and a deep sense of betrayal.
“I couldn’t bear to look at myself,” Lee recounted, describing the aftermath of her visit. “I felt like a monster.” During the procedure, Ali allegedly punctured a nerve, leading to an infection and severe facial swelling. Lee’s lips were asymmetrical, and her eyebrows were uneven, but Ali assured her it was normal and she would recover.
Despite her ordeal, Lee was under the impression that Ali was a legitimate doctor until she learned of Ali’s arrest at her now-closed West Houston clinic. Authorities accuse Ali of not only practicing without a license but also possessing medication without a prescription.
Ali’s credentials were displayed prominently—her name was listed as a doctor on the clinic’s website, and she wore a tag identifying her as such. Yet, official records indicate she is only an instructor at Fortis Institute, with no valid medical license.
“I believe she should face consequences,” Lee said, reflecting on the impact of Ali’s actions. “Many people have suffered because of her.”
This incident highlights a broader crackdown by Houston police on unlicensed practitioners. Just last week, another med spa owner, Asil Al-Tamimi, was arrested for similar offenses involving fake cosmetic fillers.
Lee’s family has been deeply affected by her experience, with her children expressing concern over her altered appearance. Meanwhile, Ali has been released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond, although she remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
The unfolding investigation underscores the importance of verifying medical credentials and raises awareness about the potential dangers of unlicensed medical practices in the community.
