Deputies said the woman showed signs of severe trauma after relatives reported they could not reach her.
HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A homicide investigation is underway after deputies found a woman dead Tuesday evening inside an apartment at a north Harris County complex, where relatives had reported they could not reach her for several days, authorities said.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the case began as a welfare check at 905 Cypress Station Drive, near Hollow Tree Lane. The woman, believed to be in her early 20s, was found dead after apartment management entered the unit. Investigators had not released her name by early Wednesday while the medical examiner worked to confirm her identity and cause of death.
Deputies were called to the complex about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after relatives contacted apartment staff and said they had been unable to make contact with their daughter. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said deputies found an adult woman dead when they arrived. Crime scene investigators and homicide detectives were sent to the property soon after. Gonzalez said the woman was possibly in her early 20s. Officials said the case was being treated as a homicide because of the condition of the victim’s body.
Investigators said the woman had suffered severe trauma, though they did not describe the injuries in detail. No suspect had been named, and no arrest had been announced by early Wednesday. Authorities also had not said whether there were signs of forced entry, whether anything was missing from the apartment or whether detectives had recovered a weapon. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine how the woman died and to formally identify her. Detectives remained at the apartment complex Tuesday night, collecting evidence and working to learn when the woman was last seen alive.
The apartment complex sits in the Cypress Station area of north Harris County, a busy corridor near Interstate 45 and FM 1960 that includes apartment communities, shops and transit stops. The same address has appeared in prior law enforcement responses, including a 2025 double homicide in the 900 block of Cypress Station in which a mother and adult son were found shot to death. Authorities have not said the new case is connected to any earlier investigation at or near the property. In Tuesday’s case, officials released only limited details, leaving the victim’s exact age, the timeline of her death and her relationship to anyone at the complex unknown.
The next steps in the investigation include the autopsy, notification of relatives and a review of evidence from the apartment and surrounding property. Detectives are expected to examine surveillance video, electronic records and witness statements to determine who may have been near the unit before the woman was found. The sheriff’s office had not announced a public briefing or court filing by early Wednesday. If investigators identify a suspect, the case could move to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges. Until then, officials said homicide detectives are leading the investigation.
The discovery began with concern from family members, not a report of gunfire or a disturbance. Relatives told apartment management they had not heard from the woman for several days, and that report led staff to check the apartment. Officials said management found the woman inside and contacted law enforcement. Deputies then secured the scene while investigators moved through the property. Television footage from the area showed a law enforcement presence at the complex as detectives worked into the evening. Authorities did not report any other injured people at the scene.
The woman’s name had not been released as of Wednesday, May 13, and the cause and manner of death remained pending. The case remains an active Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide investigation, with the medical examiner’s findings expected to shape the next public update.
