Woman accused of poisoning her husband with antifreeze

RIDGEFIELD, CT – A Connecticut woman is facing serious charges after being accused of attempting to poison her husband with antifreeze. Kristen Hogan, who resides in Ridgefield, has been charged with attempted murder, leaving the local community in shock.

Neighbors described the couple as friendly and sociable, often seen spending time with their child. However, the atmosphere changed dramatically in early August when the victim consumed a small amount of red wine and later fell ill. According to police reports, he experienced symptoms including slurred speech, staggering, and vomiting, prompting a call to his mother for help.

Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors initially suspected a stroke but later identified symptoms consistent with ethylene glycol poisoning, a chemical commonly found in antifreeze. The victim was admitted to the intensive care unit and underwent dialysis treatment.

Investigators discovered that the wine tested positive for the toxic substance. Further examination of Hogan’s phone revealed incriminating searches on her cloud account, looking up lethal doses of various poisons, including potassium cyanide and monoethylene glycol.

The victim was released from the hospital on August 22. He informed police that Hogan stood to gain full ownership of their home and custody of their child should he die, providing a potential motive for the alleged crime.

A neighbor, Michael, recounted seeing the victim outside on his phone last month, noting nothing unusual in his demeanor. Hogan is currently held on a $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
