Wife stabbed to death by her husband

HAYWARD, CA – A woman was fatally stabbed in an act of domestic violence reportedly committed by her husband, according to Hayward police. Residents of the Peppertree apartment complex where the couple lived were left in shock following the violent event on Thursday evening.

The incident unfolded on Cypress Avenue in Hayward, a location typically bustling with activity. Several neighbors dialed 911 upon hearing a woman’s screams. Responding officers found the unresponsive woman in her apartment, with injuries that were consistent with stab wounds.

Despite the immediate arrival of medical personnel, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld until next of kin, some of whom reportedly live outside the local area, are notified.

Gary Garcia, 66, turned himself in to a different police department several hours after the incident. According to Officer Cassondra Fovel, Garcia was the victim’s husband and they had been married for two to three years.

Garcia, a Filipino man and a resident of Hayward, is known among neighbors as a disabled Iraq war veteran who used a wheelchair.

The incident marks a notably violent event in the otherwise quiet apartment complex, which houses about 60 units. The police and neighbors indicate the couple’s residence hadn’t previously given rise to any issues or service calls to the police.
