Two-year-old boy accidentally shoots himself

WARREN, MI – A toddler in Warren, Michigan, accidentally shot himself on Saturday. An investigation has been launched by local police in order to determine additional details about the incident.

Police officers and the fire department were called to a residence on the 11000 block of Edgemont Street around 6:06 p.m. They arrived at the scene after receiving a report of a child being shot. When they came to the house, the first responders discovered a 2.5-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

The boy was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital in order to receive treatment. The young boy is reportedly in stable condition.

The child had been under the care of a babysitter at the time of the incident. The babysitter, who is a Concealed Pistol License holder, is believed to have left firearms in a location accessible to the toddler, according to the police statement.

Warren Police Sgt. Jim Twardesky expressed disappointment about the incident, attributing it to “laziness” and poor decision-making in relation to securing firearms.

As the investigation continues, the child’s mother remains at the hospital with her son. The Warren Police Department is urging anyone with information relevant to the incident to get in touch with Detective Rudin.
