Police said an argument involving a couple escalated into assaults, damaged vehicles and gunfire near Selinsky Road.
HOUSTON, TX — Two people were shot and a woman was assaulted after a dispute involving a couple, rammed vehicles and several groups of people escalated into gunfire in southeast Houston, according to police.
Houston police said the confrontation unfolded in the 5400 block of Selinsky Road near Martin Luther King Boulevard late Friday and into early Saturday. Local reports differed on the exact time officers were called, with ABC13 reporting police responded just before 11 p.m. Friday and KPRC reporting officers were dispatched to a shooting around 1:45 a.m. Saturday. Police found a large crowd when they arrived.
Investigators said the incident began with an argument or assault involving a woman and a man who were in a relationship. Police had not publicly explained what led to the initial dispute as of Saturday. During the confrontation, the woman began ramming vehicles at the location, according to police accounts provided to local news organizations.
Police said the owner of one of the damaged vehicles left the area and later returned with additional people. The confrontation involving the woman continued, and groups at the scene then became involved in gunfire, investigators said. Authorities have not released a detailed account identifying who fired the shots or how many weapons were involved.
A man who was across the street and was not involved in the original dispute was struck by gunfire, police said. KPRC and FOX 26 reported that he was hit twice. Officers located him a short distance from the main scene, and he was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police also received information that another person had been shot. ABC13 reported that the second gunshot victim left the scene and that the extent of that person’s injuries was unknown. Authorities had not released that person’s identity or an updated condition as of Saturday.
Investigators also found evidence of the shooting at the scene, including a vehicle with multiple bullet holes, according to FOX 26. Police have not publicly identified the people believed to have fired during the confrontation, and available reports did not specify whether weapons were recovered.
Police said charges were filed against the woman involved in the initial confrontation and a man who returned to the location with other people. Authorities had not publicly identified either person or specified the charges in the reports available Saturday. The filing of charges does not establish guilt, and further details about the allegations were not immediately available.
KPRC reported that police also investigated a second shooting reported on Selinsky Road and determined that incident was unrelated. The circumstances of the main confrontation remain under investigation, including what triggered the original dispute and the sequence of gunfire involving the groups at the scene.
Houston police had not released additional information Saturday about the condition of the second reported gunshot victim or the exact charges filed in the case. The bystander who was hospitalized was expected to survive, according to police.
