Two people found shot inside parked car

MICHIGAN CITY, IN – A deadly shooting unfolded in Michigan City on Thursday night, resulting in the death of a 58-year-old woman and injuries to her 60-year-old husband. Both of them were shot while sitting inside a parked SUV.

The incident occurred shortly after 9:10 p.m. CDT at a residence in the 200 block of Calumet Avenue. Upon responding to the call, officers were directed to an SUV parked in front of the home. Inside the vehicle, they discovered Susan Simmons, 58, who had tragically lost her life in the front passenger seat. Her husband, aged 60, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was promptly transported to the hospital for treatment, though his injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigations revealed that the victims had been inside the SUV when David “DJ” Wilson Jr. arrived at the scene. Wilson exited his vehicle and proceeded to open fire on the SUV before hastily leaving the area. Law enforcement swiftly took Wilson into custody after he crashed the vehicle he had been driving in the 3200 block of Dody Avenue. During his arrest, officers discovered a stolen handgun in his possession, and it was determined that the vehicle he had been operating was reported as stolen.

David “DJ” Wilson Jr. is now facing multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery, criminal confinement, possession of a firearm as a serious violent felon, criminal recklessness, firearm theft, auto theft, and driving with a suspended license. He is being held without bond, awaiting a future court hearing.
