Two men dead after mysterious shootout

ROYAL PALM BEACH, FL – A second man involved in a mysterious shootout in a tranquil Royal Palm Beach neighborhood has died overnight. The incident, which unfolded Tuesday night, has left the community searching for answers.

Investigative reporter Terri Parker has confirmed the identities of both men. They were longtime employees of Palm Beach County, according to officials. John Myers, 63, served as an assistant superintendent in the Palm Beach County Public Works Department since 1984, once overseeing the bridge department.

Deputies discovered Myers and another employee, both shot inside their vehicles, at the scene. Surveillance footage shows Myers arriving home and parking near his house. A white truck, idling nearby, soon approached his vehicle.

The sheriff’s office identified the driver of the truck as 65-year-old Randy Parnell, a county bridge tender employed since 2015. Authorities say Parnell was waiting for Myers and began shooting upon his arrival. The gunfire was captured on a Ring camera.

Myers returned fire before collapsing from his injuries, with a neighbor rushing to his aid. Parnell was found dead in his truck, though it remains unclear if Myers shot him or if it was self-inflicted. Myers succumbed to his injuries last night, leaving detectives puzzled over the motive behind the attack.

Attempts to reach Parnell’s brother for comment were unsuccessful, and Myers’ grieving family has declined to speak.
