Two men charged in death of missing 17-year-old girl

UNIONTOWN, PA – Nearly two years after Kaitlin Whoolery, a 17-year-old, vanished, charges have been brought against two men in connection with her death, with more charges potentially on the horizon.

Authorities have been piecing together the tragic sequence of events since Whoolery disappeared in 2023 after returning from a drug treatment center. Her body was discovered five months later at an abandoned property in North Union Township. The investigation has faced numerous challenges, but officials are committed to delivering justice.

The Fayette County District Attorney announced that Derek Bradley, 37, has been arrested and charged. Vincent Cossell, 44, is also implicated and is cooperating with investigators. The case heavily relies on eyewitness accounts due to the lack of forensic evidence, making the testimonies crucial.

According to the criminal complaint, Whoolery was with Bradley, Cossell, and another witness on the night of her death. Kash Patel, a witness, recounted to police that he and Bradley left the room momentarily, and upon their return, found Whoolery unresponsive. Despite attempts to revive her with Narcan, she could not be saved.

The witness further alleged that he urged Bradley and Cossell to call 911, but they refused. The refusal was reportedly due to the hotel room being registered under Cossell’s name and concerns about Bradley’s inappropriate relationship with the underage Whoolery.

There are suspicions surrounding certain family members of Whoolery, with investigators suggesting they might have withheld information that could have aided the investigation. The possibility of charges against them remains as the investigation continues.

Despite the complexities, the dedication of law enforcement officers has been unwavering. Their relentless efforts have been instrumental in advancing the case and bringing those responsible closer to justice.

With the charges filed, the focus remains on ensuring accountability and closure for Whoolery’s family, who have endured a prolonged period of uncertainty and grief.
