DETROIT, MI – Two individuals have tragically lost their lives following a vicious car crash that resulted in a vehicle plowing into Prince Liquor on Detroit’s east side late Sunday evening. Located on Gratiot near Harper, the liquor store was the unexpected endpoint of a harrowing accident involving multiple vehicles shortly before midnight.
Although the specifics of the crash are still being investigated, eyewitnesses recount a chaotic and jarring scene. Jasmin Martin found herself thrust into the center of the deadly crash, and she’s grateful she survived it. “I was sitting in the car, and it happened so fast… the car came speeding and flew over my car, hit my car, and all I saw was bodies over my car,” Martin said.
Another bystander, known only as Ray, corroborated the shocking scene. “It look[ed] like a car just flew through the air, split in half. And people [were] in the car as it flew into the store. It’s just a terrible thing,” Ray said. He witnessed the vehicle become airborne and split apart mid-air.
Currently, the medical examiner has confirmed the death toll of two. It is yet to be determined whether those killed were inside the vehicle or innocent bystanders. Another individual, whose involvement in the crash is unclear, is in temporary serious condition.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
