DEARBORN, MI — Two Dearborn police officers were shot early Friday during an arrest attempt near Inkster and Van Born roads in Wayne County, authorities said. The suspect was also shot and taken into custody.
The shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. Aug. 21 near an intersection close to the borders of Dearborn Heights, Romulus, Taylor and Westland. The Michigan State Police was asked to investigate the officer-involved shooting. Authorities had not released the names of the officers or the suspect as of Friday morning.
The officers were working undercover when the confrontation occurred, according to local reports citing police and law enforcement sources. Both suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to a hospital. Early reports described their conditions as serious but stable, while later reports said both officers were expected to recover and had been released from the hospital Friday morning.
