Two dead and three injured when man goes on violent rampage

OXNARD, CA – A violent rampage left two people dead and several others injured in Ventura County on Sunday, as authorities pieced together a series of chilling events that began in Oxnard and concluded in Camarillo.

The chaos started around 1 p.m. when a man identified as Johnson allegedly attacked a 33-year-old man inside a car near the intersection of Rico Avenue and Channel Islands Boulevard. The victim was riding with a 42-year-old woman when Johnson reportedly stabbed him. The couple managed to escape the vehicle, but Johnson fled in their car. The injured man was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

As law enforcement agencies searched for Johnson, a 911 call came in around 5 p.m. reporting a shooting at a residence on the 3400 block of Warto Court in Camarillo. A 47-year-old man arrived at the Camarillo police station, located less than half a mile from the crime scene, claiming he had been assaulted by an unknown individual wielding a handgun.

Upon arriving at the residence, authorities found Johnson outside and took him into custody. Inside the home, they discovered a 75-year-old woman who had been pistol-whipped and possibly shot. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. A 78-year-old man, believed to be her husband, was found unharmed, along with two other men, aged 51 and 47. The 51-year-old had also been pistol-whipped.

Investigators are working to understand the motive behind Johnson’s actions. Preliminary reports suggest that Johnson exhibited erratic and bizarre behavior earlier in the day. Authorities are still trying to determine the nature of Johnson’s relationship with the victims in Camarillo, although they confirmed he was acquainted with the couple involved in the Oxnard attack.

The investigation is ongoing as officials seek to uncover more details about the incidents and the connections between Johnson and the victims. The community remains on edge as they await further updates from law enforcement.
