Trooper critical and civilian injured after a driver crashed into a current accident scene

DALLAS, TX – A state trooper is fighting for his life after a serious accident early Thursday morning on the Dallas North Tollway. The trooper, whose identity has not been released, was struck by a vehicle while responding to a single-car crash around 12:40 a.m. near Keller Springs Road, according to authorities.

The crash has led to the closure of all northbound lanes of the tollway, causing significant traffic delays. Officials have been on-site for approximately six hours, conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. Commuters are advised to use alternate routes, such as Preston Road, to avoid the congestion stretching into Collin County.

In a tragic turn of events, a good Samaritan who was at the scene to assist was also hit by the same vehicle, a yellow Mini Cooper. The good Samaritan was transported to a local hospital, although the extent of his injuries remains unknown.

The driver of the Mini Cooper, who was also hospitalized, is reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have confirmed that he was the individual who struck both the trooper and the good Samaritan. The circumstances surrounding how the accident occurred are still under investigation.

The trooper, who was immediately rushed to Plano Presbyterian Hospital, remains in critical condition. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is working diligently to notify the trooper’s family members before releasing further details about his identity.

As the investigation unfolds, DPS has stated that the northbound lanes will remain closed for an additional two to three hours. This closure is necessary to ensure a comprehensive examination of the crash scene, which could provide crucial insights into the events that transpired.

Traffic updates indicate that the best alternative route for drivers is Preston Road, as the tollway remains heavily congested. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and patience as they navigate the detours.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by first responders and the importance of driver awareness, especially in emergency situations. Authorities continue to urge drivers to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic laws to prevent such tragic events.
