DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. – A bullet-riddled Friday afternoon left three people nursing gunshot wounds in District Heights, with a 14-year-old girl battling for her life, according to local police authorities.
The shooting took place on Atwood Street, where a mid-afternoon 911 call alerted the District Heights Police of the violent incident. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered a trio of victims– a teenage girl, a woman, and a man– each suffering injuries from the shooting spree.
Police Chief Ronald Tarpley reported the woman and man to have ‘non-critical’ wounds. However, the adolescent girl’s condition was critical. Speaking at the crime scene, he assured his department’s relentless pursuit of the perpetrators, acknowledging the growing crime concerns among local residents.
Cynthia Miller, the Mayor of District Heights, expressed her shock and dismay at the violence, describing it as an “unusual” event in the usually calm neighborhood. This unsettling incident came just a day before the city’s celebrated ‘District Heights Day.’ Mayor Miller conveyed her concern for the victims and reassured citizens of the city’s commitment to their safety above all.
The investigation into the multiple shooting and search for the culprits will be led by the Prince George’s County Police Department, as confirmed by Chief Tarpley.
