Four family members killed in triple murder-suicide

ELKRIDGE, MD – Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating a tragic incident in Elkridge, Howard County. A disturbing triple murder-suicide took place on Thursday evening that left a total of four family members dead.

Officers arrived at the 6900 block of Norwood Ferry around 10 p.m. after they received reports of gunfire by neighbors. When the police got to the scene of the crime, they discovered six individuals inside a residence.

The alleged perpetrator, identified as 61-year-old Nayyar Abbas Syed, was later pronounced dead at St. Agnes Hospital. The victims were identified as Syed’s wife, Syeda Aalia Nayyar, 57, his daughter, Syeda Fatima, 25, and his daughter-in-law, Alizey Fatima, 33. All three of the women were declared deceased at the scene.

Syed’s son, Muhammad Ali Hamza, 31, survived the incident with critical injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. A three-month-old granddaughter was found unharmed in the residence. After a necessary medical well-check at the hospital, she will be put into the custody of a family relative.
