Tip from man leads police to multi-county murder investigation

RIVERVIEW, FL – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is unraveling a complex homicide investigation that has expanded beyond county lines. Late Friday, a man entered the sheriff’s office in Brandon, claiming knowledge of a body in Pinellas County.

Detectives were led by the informant to a site near Weeden Island Preserve, where St. Petersburg police discovered a body. The investigation suggests the crime originated at a residence on Maybrook Avenue in Riverview, with the body later transported across the bay.

Chief Deputy Frank Losat described the case as fluid and multifaceted, with detectives exploring numerous angles. As St. Petersburg authorities processed the scene, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office simultaneously dispatched deputies to Riverview, where they encountered a male juvenile.

While no arrests were made at the Riverview home, a search warrant was executed to gather evidence. The informant, still cooperating with authorities, revealed that additional evidence related to the case could be found in other locations within Hillsborough County.

Efforts are underway to recover these crucial pieces of evidence. Meanwhile, the victim’s identity remains undisclosed as authorities await next-of-kin notification.

Detectives assure the public there is no ongoing threat to the community but urge anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office or submit an anonymous tip.

As the investigation unfolds, the cooperation of the man who reported the crime continues to be pivotal in piecing together the events leading to the discovery of the body.
