Chicago police investigated multiple shootings and a fatal stabbing early Sunday, with several other people hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
CHICAGO, IL — Three people were killed in separate shootings and a woman was found fatally stabbed as Chicago police responded to a series of violent incidents across the city early Sunday, according to preliminary police reports.
The violence unfolded over several hours in neighborhoods on the South, West and Northwest sides. Police reports released Sunday described shootings in New City, Austin, Little Village and Garfield Park, while the fatal stabbing was reported in Albany Park. Authorities had not announced arrests in connection with the shootings as of Sunday morning.
One of the first fatal shootings was reported around midnight in the 4500 block of South Honore Street in the New City area. First responders found a man unresponsive with several gunshot wounds, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police released no additional information about what led to the shooting or who may have fired the shots.
Another fatal shooting was reported shortly before 2 a.m. in Austin. Officers responding to the 300 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue found a 32-year-old man who had been shot, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities had not released his name or provided information about a possible suspect.
About 20 minutes later, police were called to the 2800 block of South Kedzie Avenue in Little Village. A 29-year-old man was outside a vehicle when someone drove past and opened fire, according to police. The man was shot and died at the scene. Police had not released a description of the shooter or the vehicle involved.
Police also investigated a shooting in the Garfield Park area around 1:45 a.m. Officers responding to the 3400 block of West Carroll Avenue found a 45-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his arm and hip. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said. Two other men later arrived at the hospital with injuries police said were connected to the same shooting. A 46-year-old man was listed in critical condition, while a 34-year-old man was reported in fair condition.
Separate preliminary police information also described other gunshot victims overnight. A 24-year-old man arrived at St. Mary’s Hospital around 12:30 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his hand but did not provide police with information about where the shooting happened or who was responsible. In Austin, another 24-year-old man approached officers in the 5000 block of West Ferdinand Street around 2:30 a.m. and said he had been shot. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.
In Albany Park, a woman was found unresponsive inside a home in the 4800 block of North Avers Avenue around 1:45 a.m., police said. She had suffered a stab wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police had not released her identity or said what led to the stabbing. No additional details about a suspect were immediately available.
The incidents were being investigated separately, and police had not announced evidence Sunday linking the shootings or the stabbing. The preliminary reports also left some details unresolved, including the circumstances surrounding several of the shootings and whether detectives had identified suspects. Police said investigations were continuing.
