BOSTON, MA – Two 15-year-old boys were detained following an alleged robbery incident involving a 9-year-old boy on a Dorchester playground on Thursday, according to the Boston Police Department.
The incident was reported around 6:35 p.m. at the Children’s Park located at the intersection of Intervale and Fernboro streets. The 9-year-old victim reported to officers that he had been waiting for a cookout when he was approached by two other boys who, at gunpoint, demanded his cell phone and the password.
The child’s mother shared that her son was fearful for his life and believed he would die. Despite the gun used in the robbery later proving to be a replica, the experience left a significant psychological impact on her son. She had given him the cell phone for safe communication with her when at the park.
Police officers located two 15-year-old boys near the scene who matched the descriptions provided by the 9-year-old. One of the suspects had an iPhone that was receiving multiple calls, while the other was found in possession of a replica firearm with distinctive features.
Both boys were charged with armed robbery and threat to commit a crime. They were arraigned Friday in West Roxbury Juvenile Court and are scheduled for dangerousness hearings on July 30. They are being held without bail until then.
