Teen critically injured in subway surfing incident

BRONX, NY – A teenager is in critical condition after a perilous subway surfing incident that highlights a growing concern across New York City. The incident occurred at a station in the Bronx, where two teenagers attempted the dangerous stunt, according to police sources.

Witnesses report that one of the teens, aged between 14 and 16, was severely injured and rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. A passenger, who frequently sees the same group engaging in this risky behavior, captured video footage of the incident.

This alarming trend has been on the rise, with authorities reporting 229 arrests related to subway surfing last year. Tragically, 15 individuals were injured, and six lost their lives in these incidents over recent years.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has initiated campaigns such as “Ride Inside, Stay Alive,” aiming to discourage the illegal practice. Meanwhile, the NYPD has intensified efforts by visiting schools and deploying officers to known hotspots. Drones are also being used to monitor these areas.

Commuters expressed shock and concern over the incident, underscoring the need for heightened awareness and prevention measures. The NYPD is collaborating with social media platforms to remove videos that glorify subway surfing, hoping to curb its appeal.

Efforts continue as city officials and law enforcement strive to educate young people on the dangers of subway surfing, emphasizing safety over thrill.
