The toddler was fatally shot in the head after her teenage cousin gained access to an unsecured firearm. According to authorities, the shooting took place just before noon on Thursday at a residence on the 2600 block of 29th Street. At the time, the toddler was at home with seven other family members. Sergeant Eric Gripp from the Philadelphia Police Department said that it appeared a 14-year-old had obtained the unsecured firearm within the house and accidentally fired a shot, striking the two-year-old girl.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing scene, with one neighbor named Emonhny describing how the child’s mother rushed outside with her wounded daughter. Emonhny immediately dialed 911, expressing disbelief and sorrow over the tragic loss. The shooting is believed to have taken place in an upstairs bedroom, and a compassionate passerby stopped to transport the mother and child to Temple University Hospital.
