Surgeon accused of sexual assault at gunpoint

NEW YORK, NY – A prominent New York City surgeon faces grave accusations tonight, charged with the sexual assault of a woman at gunpoint. Prosecutors allege the doctor falsely claimed connections to the NYPD, the U.S. Secret Service, and the U.S. Marshals.

Dr. Maritzio Milleta, 56, who teaches and practices at hospitals in New York and New Jersey, is accused of assaulting a woman nearly 30 years his junior. The accuser reportedly saw Milleta as a mentor and visited his apartment in June for a discussion about medicine. However, prosecutors claim the visit took a dark turn when Milleta allegedly kissed her without consent.

When the woman resisted, Milleta reportedly lifted his shirt to reveal a holstered gun, warning her to “watch out for this.” Prosecutors say that when she inquired if the gun was loaded, Milleta confirmed it was. He then allegedly placed the weapon on a coffee table near her head before committing the assault, after which the woman managed to escape.

The charges against Milleta are deeply troubling, highlighting a stark power imbalance. The doctor has pleaded not guilty to rape and other charges, with a judge setting bail at one million dollars.

Authorities are investigating Milleta’s purported ties to law enforcement. However, as emphasized by the district attorney, such claims do not excuse the alleged actions of using a firearm to coerce a woman into sex.

The case has sparked outrage and concern, as the community grapples with the implications of a trusted medical professional facing such serious allegations. The investigation continues, with prosecutors determined to uncover the truth behind Milleta’s alleged connections and actions.
