Six dead, others injured, in violent car crash

HOUSTON, TX – An early morning traffic violation turned deadly in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, leaving six people dead and two critically injured, as reported by the local police.

The fatal event unfolded around 2 a.m. at the junction of Fannin Street and Pierce Street. The driver of a black Chrysler 300 sedan allegedly ignored a red light and collided with an SUV at high speed. Assistant Chief Megan Howard of the Houston Police Department relayed these details in a video message.

Howard explained that the Chrysler was speeding south on Fannin Street when it ran the red light and crashed into a black Acura SUV traveling east on Pierce Street. The collision was so severe that it claimed four lives instantly, with two more individuals later succumbing to their injuries in the hospital. The driver of the Chrysler, who was among the deceased, was identified as the one responsible for the accident.

The victims included five men and one woman, whose ages were not disclosed by Howard. She also revealed that one of the deceased was homeless, although it is not clear whether this individual was inside one of the vehicles at the time of the crash.

In addition to the fatalities, a woman is battling life-threatening injuries in critical condition, and another man is also hospitalized. Online images show the SUV overturned under an overpass with the area cordoned off by the police. The authorities have yet to release further details about the incident.
