Shoplifter shoots at Walmart employees

CAVE CREEK, AZ – On Sunday evening, a conflict at a Cave Creek Walmart took a dangerous turn when a 19-year-old man allegedly fired shots at loss prevention employees. The suspect, now in police custody, was reportedly involved in a shoplifting incident at the store located at Cave Creek Road and Carefree Highway.

Police records indicate the altercation took place around 5 p.m., with store employees intercepting two men allegedly attempting to shoplift. The employees managed to convince the men to pay for the disputed items, after which they exited the store. However, the confrontation escalated in the parking lot when one of the men reportedly drew a gun and fired multiple shots towards the staff.

Following the incident, law enforcement officers obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s home, leading to a standoff as the man barricaded himself inside. A drawn-out negotiation resulted in his eventual apprehension. A search of his premises revealed an array of weapons.

According to police reports, the accused claimed he was harassed by Walmart’s loss prevention team. The suspect confronted them and, in an attempt to intimidate them, fired shots towards the store’s entrance.

Tense moments left the store with broken doors and damaged walls.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the shooting.

The suspect is currently facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and criminal damage.
