Shoplifter brutally stabs gas station employee

NEW YORK, NY – A weekend confrontation between a gas station attendant and an alleged thief took a violent turn, leaving the worker in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times. The incident occurred at a BP station located on Westchester Square near East Tremont Avenue early Sunday morning. The 25-year-old employee attempted to thwart a robbery, resulting in the suspect attacking him with a knife, according to police reports.

The victim suffered from severe injuries to his neck, arm, and head and was swiftly transported to Jacobi Medical Center. He currently remains in critical care. The suspect’s intentions regarding the stolen items remain unclear as he fled before being apprehended.

Investigators have released surveillance footage capturing the suspect, described as around 50 years old, weighing 180 pounds, and wearing a distinctive gray hoodie with “New York” and the number 35 printed on it, paired with black pants and burgundy sneakers. Efforts to locate and detain him continue.

This stabbing has drawn attention to similar violent incidents in the Bronx, including the fatal stabbing of Gwendolyn Guyton earlier this month. Guyton’s murder occurred during an altercation within a deli on Southern Boulevard, intensifying the call for increased safety measures in the area. Her attacker remains at large.

United Bodegas of America has responded by offering a $2,000 reward for any relevant information leading to the suspect’s arrest in the gas station stabbing. Spokesman Fernando Mateo emphasized the urgent need for action, citing the recent increase in felony assaults, which have risen by approximately 16.5% in the precinct covering the location of the attack.

Mateo appealed to public officials to prioritize safety improvements, urging the creation of more secure environments for businesses and residents. While incidents of robbery have decreased, the continued rise in personal assaults poses a severe threat to community well-being.

Efforts to strengthen public safety and foster secure neighborhoods persist as local organizations and officials seek comprehensive reforms to address these critical issues.
