LOWELL, MA – Chaos erupted early Saturday morning at a gathering in a parking lot at the Shri Swaminarayan Hindu Temple on Middlesex Street in Lowell, leaving one dead and two others injured, according to Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.
Around 4:53 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting at the location. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found victims with gunshot wounds. Two of them, a 43-year-old man from Lowell and a 34-year-old man, were hastily transported to a local hospital. The older man was pronounced dead, whereas the 34-year-old remains under treatment.
A 26-year-old woman, who also incurred minor injuries, managed to transport herself to the hospital. The District Attorney’s office shared that it appears a physical altercation took place before the shooting among a group that had gathered in the parking lot.
No findings imply that the gathering bore any relation to the temple. A local worker revealed that security camera footage showed what appeared like fireworks and cars racing into the parking lot.
Upon arrival of the police at around 5 a.m., vehicles were seen swiftly exiting the lot. Investigations, concentrating primarily on a black sedan with seeming bullet holes, continue at full swing. The gathering was supposed to host around 200 people on the same day, according to the temple.
