Series of earthquakes hit San Bernadino

SAN BERNARDINO, CA – A series of earthquakes rattled San Bernardino County early this morning, with the strongest tremor striking the area near Fontana. The magnitude 4.3 quake occurred at 9:32 a.m. in Muscoy, registering at a depth of just over three miles. This was the most significant of at least four quakes that shook the region within a short span.

Additional seismic activity was recorded south in Rialto, where quakes ranged from magnitudes of 2.8 to 3.1. Residents across the Inland Empire reported feeling the tremors, with some reports extending as far as Studio City.

While the extent of any damage remains unclear, authorities are closely monitoring the situation. There have been no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage, but updates are expected from Caltech and local seismologists shortly.

Experts frequently remind residents of the possibility of aftershocks following such seismic events. It is advised that individuals prepare by securing heavy furniture and appliances, identifying safe spots to take cover, and establishing communication plans with family and friends.

Emergency preparedness is crucial. Residents are encouraged to gather essential supplies, including water, emergency kits, and go-bags for their homes, cars, and workplaces. These preparations are not just for today’s events but for any future emergencies.

During an earthquake, safety protocols suggest avoiding running to different rooms while shaking occurs. Contrary to past beliefs, doorways do not offer protection from falling or flying objects. Additionally, avoid using matches or open flames near potential gas leaks.

Authorities continue to keep the public informed as more information becomes available. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines.
