Sergeant investigating stolen car shot in the head

SAN DIEGO, CA – A police sergeant in San Diego sustained injuries after being shot during an investigation of a suspected stolen vehicle in a grocery store parking lot, according to local law enforcement.

Late Thursday night, around 11:35 p.m., a shootout erupted in the parking lot, according to eyewitnesses who promptly dialed 911. The information was confirmed by Lt. Matthew Carpenter of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The wounded officer, a sergeant with the local police department, was struck by a bullet in the head, as reported by Lt. Adam Sharki from the sheriff’s department. The severity of the sergeant’s injuries necessitated immediate hospitalization.

In addition to the sergeant, another individual implicated in the shooting was also transported to a local hospital, as confirmed by San Diego police. The identity of this individual and their role in the incident has not been disclosed.
