DEKALB COUNTY, GA – A dramatic crash involving an 18-wheeler and a car has left a man hospitalized and his family grappling with past trauma. The incident occurred Friday afternoon at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Rays Road, where 29-year-old Keith Lamont Richardson Jr. was struck by a semi-truck while preparing to make a left turn.
Dash cam footage captured the harrowing moment when the 18-wheeler collided with Richardson’s car, dragging it across the intersection. His mother, Helen Lewis Georgana, described the horrifying scene, noting the blood coming from her son’s mouth and the severe damage to his vehicle. Medics rushed Richardson to Grady Memorial Hospital, where doctors discovered a blood clot in his head.
DeKalb County police reported that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle before hitting Richardson’s car. The driver, who is in his 60s, experienced a medical emergency and pulled over about a mile down the road to call the police. The trucking company, identified as My Way Trucking from Tucker, confirmed the driver’s condition.
This incident is particularly painful for Richardson’s family, as they have previously lost two members to accidents involving 18-wheelers. The emotional toll of another crash has brought back traumatic memories for Georgana, who urges truck drivers to be more cautious on the road.
Despite the severity of the crash, Richardson is showing signs of improvement, though his recovery journey remains long. DeKalb County police have cited the semi-truck driver for the accident.
