DALLAS, TX – Dallas law enforcement has apprehended a man allegedly responsible for the murder of his former landlord, 49-year-old Sonya Warren, inside her residence in Old East Dallas. The incident occurred earlier this month, and her body was found on July 6th during a welfare check by officers.
According to the arrest warrant, Warren was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head. Further damages to her residence included a doorbell camera that had been torn from the wall.
Statements from a witness indicated that Warren had converted a section of her home into an apartment, which she rented out to the suspect, 41-year-old Jeffrey Hinton, until about a month prior to her murder.
Video evidence corroborated additional witness statements that saw Hinton at Warren’s home on July 5. This evidence included footage of Hinton’s blue Hyundai Elantra parked in the driveway on the same day, during which two gunshots were heard. The witness also reported observing Hinton removing the doorbell camera from the wall.
A license plate number that was provided by the witness has been linked to Hinton. During an interview, Hinton acknowledged his presence at Warren’s home for a brief period but denied any involvement in the removal of the doorbell camera.
