Police looking for shooting suspect

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Over the past two weeks, Philadelphia has witnessed a troubling surge in shootings, despite clear surveillance footage capturing the suspects. Law enforcement officials are urging the public to provide more tips to aid in making arrests.

One incident occurred last Wednesday afternoon on the 200 block of Sheldon Street. Surveillance footage shows an armed individual firing at a white vehicle in broad daylight. The vehicle quickly left the scene, and police have been unable to locate its occupants, although they believe the shooting stemmed from an argument.

Seven shell casings were found at the scene, and another vehicle was hit by gunfire, though no injuries were reported. The Northwest Detective Division is currently investigating this and other recent shootings in the area.

In another incident, a suspect robbed a man at gunpoint on the 5700 block of North Front Street in Olney. The victim managed to fire back at the suspect, but the image of the suspect is less clear, complicating the investigation.

Earlier in the week, a woman narrowly escaped gunfire on the 4800 block of North Lawrence Street. The shooter, a masked man, was seen being transported by a Nissan Juke, which was last spotted heading southbound on Roosevelt Boulevard from Fifth Street.

Despite these incidents, city data indicates a 32% decrease in overall shootings. Authorities emphasize the importance of video surveillance in generating leads, hoping that increased public engagement will help solve these cases.

Investigators continue to seek information about the white vehicle involved in the Sheldon Street shooting to determine if anyone inside was injured.
