Pilot dies after plane crashes into front yard

SAVANNAH, GA – A small airplane crash in Savannah left a pilot dead, but miraculously, the sole passenger survived the incident with only minor injuries. The fatal crash took place Sunday night when a Cessna 336 aircraft went down in the front yard of a home in a residential neighborhood.

The Savannah Fire Department’s swift response captured attention after they shared a photograph of the crumpled plane at the crash site. Firefighters acted quickly to extricate the pilot and passenger trapped within the wreckage, enabling the transport of the injured to a hospital.

Authorities reported that the unfortunate accident took place on East 66th Street. Despite the tragic death of the pilot, the passenger’s survival with minimal injuries was unexpected.

Remarkably, no bystanders or residents in the neighborhood sustained injuries as a consequence of the crash.

In the aftermath, East 66th Street remained inaccessible to non-residents to allow federal and local agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and oversee the removal of the damaged aircraft.

The Federal Aviation Administration has taken charge of probing the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine its cause.
