MILWAUKEE, WI – A community is demanding justice after a brutal attack on three elderly men was caught on video. The incident, which has left residents of Milwaukee’s Southside outraged, resulted in the arrest of three teenagers. The attack occurred in an alley near a McDonald’s on National Avenue, where the victims were ambushed by a group of young assailants.
The victims, Freddy Vega and his brother-in-law Jesus Sandino, were standing outside a building owned by Vega’s son, Philip Martinez, when the assault took place. According to Martinez, the violence stemmed from an earlier altercation at a nearby high school, Bradley Tech, and escalated at the fast-food restaurant. The disturbing footage, which has circulated widely on social media, shows the teenagers launching a vicious assault on the unsuspecting men.
Milwaukee Police have detained two 14-year-olds and one 15-year-old in connection with the attack. The suspects are facing aggravated assault charges. A third victim, a 53-year-old man, also sustained injuries during the incident. Martinez described his father’s condition as serious, noting that Vega was released from the hospital but remains in significant pain and requires assistance with basic tasks.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson condemned the attack, calling it “without any conceivable justification” and emphasizing the need for those responsible to be held accountable. However, Martinez and other community members are calling for more than just statements. They are urging a meeting with the Milwaukee Police Department, Milwaukee Public Schools, and the mayor to address the ongoing violence and find a lasting solution.
Residents are particularly frustrated with what they perceive as empty promises from local authorities. They are demanding concrete actions to prevent such incidents in the future, including the restoration of police officers in schools, a measure Mayor Johnson supports. The community’s call for accountability and immediate action underscores the urgency of addressing the root causes of violence in the area.
As police continue their investigation and search for additional suspects, the Southside community remains vigilant, hoping for swift justice and meaningful change.
