Officials trying to find missing woman

PICKENS COUNTY, SC – The serene landscape of Table Rock State Park turned into a scene of urgency and concern as authorities launched a search operation for a missing camper, Stephanie Womacks. The 37-year-old, originally from Temple, Georgia, was last seen Monday evening at the White Oaks Campground, where she had been camping with her husband. This disappearance has sparked a multi-agency effort to locate her amidst the sprawling 3,500-acre park.

Womacks was reportedly last spotted wearing a brown hoodie and jeans. She is believed to have taken her walking stick and blanket with her, officials said. Her husband had briefly left the campsite to gather supplies, and upon his return, Womacks was nowhere to be found. This prompted an immediate search effort that has now extended beyond 24 hours.

The search operation has engaged over 80 personnel from 13 different agencies, utilizing resources such as K-9 units, drones, and a helicopter from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Search boats equipped with divers are also scouring Pinnacle Lake. Despite the intensive search, the vast terrain of Table Rock State Park presents a significant challenge.

Billy Gibson, Director of Emergency Services for Pickens County, highlighted the difficulties faced by search crews. “It’s a challenge because Table Rock State Park is vast, and searching such an extensive area in a short amount of time is daunting,” Gibson noted. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of Womacks along Highway 11 or nearby roads.

The search efforts are set to continue until nightfall, with officials determined to cover as much ground as possible. The community is on high alert, with residents and visitors urged to assist by keeping an eye out for any signs of the missing camper.

As the hours pass, the urgency of the situation intensifies. Womacks’ disappearance has not only mobilized local resources but also drawn the attention of neighboring communities. The hope remains that she will be found safe and reunited with her loved ones soon.

Anyone with information about Womacks’ whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office immediately. As the search persists, authorities emphasize the importance of community engagement in ensuring a swift and successful resolution to this distressing situation.
