Officer in critical condition after suspect open fires

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ — A tense situation unfolded Monday morning in the East Valley, leaving an officer critically injured after a shooting near Ironwood Drive and Elliot Road.

Around 9:30 a.m., the Apache Junction Police Department received alarming reports of a man driving erratically in the area while brandishing a firearm. Responding officers were quickly dispatched to the scene to address the potential threat.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the suspect, a 37-year-old man, who exited his vehicle and began walking away with a gun in hand. Despite repeated commands to stop, the man remained unresponsive to law enforcement directives.
