Officer arrested for alleged battery of a woman he met at a nightclub

MIAMI, FL – A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputy is facing serious allegations after an encounter at a local nightclub led to his arrest. Lieutenant Daniel Challa, who was recently arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman he met at a Miami nightclub, has been released on a $1,000 bond and is vehemently denying the charges against him.

The deputy, who has served with Miami-Dade for over three decades, was initially charged with battery and false imprisonment. However, during his court appearance, a judge dismissed the false imprisonment charge due to a lack of probable cause. Challa maintains his innocence and plans to contest the remaining misdemeanor battery charge.

According to the arrest report, the incident began when Challa met a woman at the popular 11 Miami nightclub. The two later went to Challa’s downtown Miami apartment, where the woman alleges the situation turned violent. She told police that what she initially perceived as a consensual encounter escalated when Challa allegedly tightened his grip around her neck. In fear, she reportedly crawled to a neighbor’s door seeking help.

The neighbor who responded to the woman’s plea for assistance described her as being visibly distressed and bleeding from her mouth. Detectives noted that the victim had marks on her neck and broken fingernails, supporting her claims of an assault. Despite this, Challa asserts that he is “most certainly innocent” and claims there was no battery or rough interaction.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has expressed disappointment over the allegations. The sheriff emphasized the importance of integrity and professionalism within the department, stating that any deviation from these standards damages the public’s trust. As the investigation unfolds, Challa has been placed on leave with pay pending the outcome of the case.

The situation has stirred significant attention, as the department grapples with maintaining its reputation amidst the allegations. Challa, whose career spans 30 years, awaits his day in court, confident that the truth will prevail.
