Nine-year-old student fatally struck by school bus

FLORIDA – A horrifying incident unfolded in Orlando, Florida, resulting in the death of a 9-year-old student. The young boy was fatally run over by his school bus after he crawled underneath in an attempt to retrieve his dropped football. The driver, apparently unaware of the situation, started moving the bus. In doing so, the bus driver ran over the young child.

The dreadful incident unfolded in the afternoon hours, shortly after the boy was released from the school bus, stationed at the Waterford East Apartments in Orange County. The driver, a 54-year-old man with over a decade of experience, has fully cooperated with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) investigators who arrived at the scene.

The FHP and the boy’s family are grappling with the tragedy and have launched a thorough investigation, including reviewing the video surveillance footage to shed light on the sequence of events.

Kenia Joachim, the mother of the victim’s close friend, shares her shock at the unexpected tragedy, describing how the two children used to play together near her apartment frequently.

Dr. Maria Vazquez, the Superintendent of Orange County Public Schools, expressed her condolences in a statement. She referred to the victim as “one of our precious students” and underscored the school district’s commitment to fully cooperate with the ongoing FHP investigation.
