DENVER, CO – Authorities in Denver are investigating the shooting of NFL player Josh Reynolds, a wide receiver for the Broncos, who was injured last week after visiting a strip club. The incident occurred early Friday morning and involved Reynolds and two other men, who were attacked while leaving the establishment in a vehicle.
Responding to multiple emergency calls, police found that Reynolds, 29, was struck twice by bullets, sustaining injuries to the back of his head and left arm. Another individual suffered a gunshot wound to the back, while a third man was injured by shattered glass. The trio was inside a blue Ford Bronco at the time of the assault.
The attack took place after the group left Shotgun Willie’s, a strip club with a notorious reputation located in the suburbs of Denver. This venue previously made headlines when NBA player Ja Morant displayed a firearm during a live stream inside one of its rooms.
According to information from court filings, Reynolds and his companions did not encounter any conflicts while inside the club. However, they noticed several vehicles trailing them from the club to the highway, leading to the subsequent ambush. Denver police announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the crime: Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza.
Surveillance footage showed Mendoza’s car closely following the victims’ vehicle. During questioning, Charlesworth revealed he was recruited to provide assistance to a friend who had grievances with the victims and was instructed to pursue them.
Josh Reynolds has been an active contributor to his team, amassing 12 receptions for 183 yards and one touchdown this season. His absence was noted in last Thursday’s game against the Saints, as he was placed on the injury reserve list due to a finger injury.
In an official statement, the Broncos confirmed Reynolds was “a victim of a shooting” and received medical attention for his wounds, while emphasizing respect for the ongoing legal process and deferring further comments to law enforcement.
