NBA star arrested for allegedly strangling his girlfriend

NYC, NY- Houston Rockets guard, Kevin Porter Jr., 23, found himself in police custody on Monday in New York City. His arrest took place after allegations of assaulting a woman. According to two high-ranking law enforcement sources, the woman in question is believed to be Porter’s girlfriend, although the police department has not officially confirmed this.

The incident reportedly took place at the Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza early Monday morning. Responding to a call, officers arrived at the scene around 6:45 a.m. to find a 26-year-old woman with a facial laceration.

An initial investigation led to the identification of Bryan Kevin Porter Jr. as the alleged assailant. The woman claimed that Porter had hit her multiple times and strangled her. Following the incident, she was transported to a local hospital where she was reported to be in stable condition. Law enforcement sources revealed that she had sustained bruising and at least one broken bone.

The incident reportedly escalated after both Porter and the woman, who had been out together, returned to their hotel room. Porter was locked out of the room, which is when the situation allegedly turned violent, prompting hotel security to alert the police.

The Houston Rockets organization, upon hearing the news, stated that they were in the process of gathering information and declined to comment further. This incident comes just months after Porter and the Rockets agreed to a four-year, $82.5 million contract extension in October.

Porter’s conduct has previously raised eyebrows in the NBA. Notable incidents include a food-throwing episode during his tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers and his refusal to play in the second half of a game with the Rockets. Despite these controversies, Porter had a strong performance last season, averaging approximately 19 points, five rebounds, and nearly six assists per game.
