Mother arrested after leaving kids alone for a week to go on cruise

HOUSTON, TX – A Texas woman is facing serious charges after allegedly abandoning her two young children to embark on a week-long cruise. Lakesha Woods Williams, a 29-year-old mother from Houston, was arrested on two counts of child endangerment after her children, aged 6 and 8, were found alone in her high-rise apartment.

Williams is said to have set sail on her cruise on April 4, not returning until the evening of April 10. Concerns for the children’s welfare led to a call to Precinct 5 deputies, who discovered the children alone in the apartment located on the 9700 block of Katy Freeway on April 9.

Upon arrival, the children informed the deputies that their mother was away on a cruise. This led to the involvement of paramedics and Child Protective Services to evaluate the children’s wellbeing. Constable Ted Heap underscored the importance of holding those responsible accountable for leaving children in precarious situations.

Following her return from the cruise, Williams was arrested on charges of child endangerment. The children are now reportedly in the care of a relative. Williams was taken to the Harris County Detention Facility, with her bond set at $25,000. She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
