Missing woman’s body found in storage unit

WINTER SPRINGS, FL – A local woman, missing for over a week, has been discovered deceased in a storage facility, according to local law enforcement.

Shakeira Rucker, a 37-year-old mother of four from Winter Springs, was last seen on November 11. Her body was discovered on Saturday, which has led to her missing person case being reclassified as a homicide investigation by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The authorities were alerted to the situation at the Self Storage on 2400 Wiggins Road in Apopka around 5 p.m. after a complaint was lodged about a suspicious smell, according to local sources.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office made a statement on social media, informing the public that Rucker’s family had been notified and expressing their commitment to achieving justice in this case.

Rucker was last seen departing her residence with her estranged husband, Cory Hill. Hill was promptly considered a person of interest in her disappearance. Surveillance footage showed the couple leaving a restaurant in Polk County together on the night she was reported missing.

Hill is currently detained in the Orange County jail on unrelated attempted murder charges. He has reportedly declined to discuss Rucker’s disappearance with law enforcement and has not been charged or named a suspect in her death.

A $5,000 reward was previously offered by Crimeline for information leading to Rucker’s whereabouts. Orange County Sheriff John Mina is expected to provide further details about the case in a press conference on Sunday.
