Mass shooting at Ramadan event leaves 4 injured

WEST PHILADELPHIA, PA – A shooting in West Philadelphia resulted in multiple injuries and led to the apprehension of four individuals on Wednesday afternoon, according to law enforcement. Several firearms were seized as police responded to the incident, which took place near Clara Muhammad Square at approximately 2 p.m.

The situation reportedly involved an exchange of gunfire between two groups on the street. At least one officer also discharged their firearm at an armed individual during the conflict, as per an official.

Police swiftly transported two victims with gunshot injuries to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. One of these individuals is believed to be a potential suspect. Later, the medical institute informed authorities that three more victims of gunshot wounds had arrived for treatment.

In a detailed account of the chaos, Najah Bey, who was partaking in an Eid al-Fitr celebration at a nearby location, described how she and her family ran for safety when the shooting started. Amid the panic and confusion, Bey had to locate her son, mother, brothers, and grandmother while everyone at the scene scattered.

Bey recounted that one of her family members was shot in the stomach during the frenzy. She also mentioned that the celebration marked the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The festivities were attended by hundreds of individuals, ranging from children to elderly people.
